WGP Seminar – ‘Process, Tool and Machine Analysis’

The outcome of machining processes is assessed on the basis of numerous factors. These include, in particular, surface finish, the microstructure of the edge zones, and dimensional and geometric tolerances on the part side, as well as wear and the resulting tool life on the tool side. These factors are interdependent and, through a complex interplay, determine the quality of the process. Determining these influencing factors requires not only the necessary measurement technology but also knowledge of how to use it. A sound understanding of how to measure the relevant process parameters helps to prevent errors during data acquisition.

This seminar aims to provide general knowledge on the application of key measurement methods and techniques for workpiece and tool-side analysis. These include force and temperature measurements, high-speed imaging, vibration analyses and wear measurements of the tools. Based on the insights gained, this seminar aims to raise awareness of current process- and component-specific evaluation methods, with a view to increasing the use of measurement technology in the manufacturing operations of modern industrial enterprises and thereby improving production quality and cost-effective machining.

To this end, the Institute for Machining Technology invites you to a two-day seminar on Process, Tool and Machine Analysis on 14 and 15 October 2026 at Dortmund Technical University.
