When the coating makes the difference – influence of grain coatings on the mechanical properties of metal-bonded diamond grinding layers

01. December 2025

The machining of hard metal in deep-groove grinding requires the use of superabrasive cutting tools in combination with highly wear-resistant bonding systems. For this purpose, metal-bonded grinding wheels with diamond as the abrasive grain are used, among others. Compared to resin or ceramic bonds, metal bonds are characterized by higher wear resistance and thermal conductivity. The bonding matrix of these grinding wheels is primarily composed of bronze [DEN16].
