At the Wernesgrüner Tool Symposium, Vollmer highlights the ‘David versus Goliath’ effect in the grinding industry.

28. February 2026

From 17 to 19 March 2026, the tool industry will once again gather for the Wernesgrüner Tool Symposium. As one of the leading machine manufacturers for grinding technology, Vollmer will once again be represented this year with an information stand and a specialist presentation. Under the title ‘David versus Goliath in the grinding industry – survival through innovation and technological resilience’, Tobias Schäfer and Andreas Nitka will provide insights into the current challenges facing the tool grinding industry.

The speakers will examine current market conditions from the perspective of machine manufacturers. International competitive pressure, rising costs, increasing tool complexity and rapid technological change are presenting many companies with seemingly insurmountable challenges. The presentation will show how Vollmer can support its customers in meeting these challenges with expertise, courage and the right strategy. The key to this is future-proof machine technology, intelligent automation and digitalisation concepts, and partnership-based support that goes far beyond the machine itself.

A central focus of the presentation is on digitalisation as a strategic necessity. For machine manufacturers and users alike, it is no longer an optional extra, but a prerequisite for sustainable competitiveness. Artificial intelligence in particular is becoming a key growth driver for the industry: it enables more efficient processes, increases productivity and creates measurable added value along the entire value chain.

‘Innovation is not a requirement – but neither is survival,’ quote Tobias Schäfer and Andreas Nitka, referring to W. E. Deming. The presentation makes it clear that technological resilience, openness to new solutions and close cooperation between machine manufacturers and users are decisive success factors for the future of the grinding industry. By participating in the Wernesgrüner Tool Symposium, the machine manufacturers are once again demonstrating their commitment to actively shaping the transformation of the industry and supporting their customers as a reliable technology and innovation partner.
