Horn showcases the expansion of the S274 tool system at the AMB

25. July 2026

At AMB 2026 in Stuttgart, Paul Horn GmbH is showcasing new solutions for grooving and turning operations. Among the highlights is the expansion of the S274 tool system to include new sintered chip-forming geometries. With this move, HORN is further expanding its portfolio specifically for grooving and parting off, grooving and sliding-head turning, as well as reverse turning.

The new geometries are primarily aimed at users of Swiss-type lathes. They improve chip control, increase process reliability and support cost-effective machining even with narrow grooving widths. For grooving and parting off, HORN is expanding its precision-sintered .1A chip-forming geometry to include grooving widths of 0.8 mm and 0.6 mm. The narrow types reduce material loss whilst ensuring reliable chip formation. The geometry is suitable for a variety of materials and covers feed rates ranging from 0.03 to 0.12 mm/rev.

Press-fit threaded insert

The new cutting inserts are available as type RS274 and as the RE274 type with a press-fit threaded insert for the RH274 clamping holder. Horn offers the cutting inserts in the carbide grades TH35 and IG35. This provides users with a solution for stable processes during grooving and parting off, even when components, materials or cutting widths pose significant challenges.

In addition, Horn is expanding the S274 system to include the sintered chip-forming geometries .NF and .PR. The .NF geometry is designed for grooving and sliding-head turning, whilst the .PR geometry is designed for reverse turning. Both types support controlled chip formation and stable machining processes on Swiss-type lathes. The .NF geometry covers feed rates of 0.02 to 0.1 mm/rev for grooving and sliding-head turning. The .PR geometry operates within the same feed rate range for reverse turning. Both geometries can be used universally for various materials and are also available in TH35 and IG35.

Experience it live

At the AMB, Horn is showcasing its expertise in precision tools. In Hall 1, stand J10, the company is recreating the shop floor at the exhibition across an area of around 500 square metres. Three machines in operation demonstrate standard products, bespoke solutions and innovations in action. Visitors can thus experience not just individual tools, but complete machining processes.

“In even-numbered years, the AMB in Stuttgart is Europe’s leading trade fair for metal cutting. Visitors to the AMB can expect an experience that engages all the senses – hearing, seeing, smelling, feeling and tasting,” says Markus Horn, Managing Director of Paul Horn GmbH. “Solutions, innovations and dialogue on an equal footing form the basis for this. Please visit us in Hall 1, stand J10. We look forward to seeing you.”
