Production machines for diamond grinding wheels

20. February 2024

Precision, versatility, robustness and reliability are not only characteristics of a diamond grinding wheel, but also the requirements that manufacturers place on the associated production machines. After all, first-class products can only be manufactured with a machine that meets these high standards. Manufacturers all over the world have been relying on M+M Mai GmbH for many years in this area. And their success proves them right.

Cylindrical grinding machines with added precision

When Michael Mai, co-owner and Managing Director of M+M Mai GmbH, talks about precision, he quickly turns to the Mü area. "Run-outs of <1µm are no problem for our machines," says the industrial engineering graduate proudly, pointing to a cylindrical grinding machine in his production hall that is being prepared for transportation to the USA. "We are often asked how we manage to build such precise machines. The answer is quite simple: it's the sum of many small aspects that ultimately come together to form a big whole," says Michael Mai. For its cylindrical grinding machines, the company relies on extremely rigid main structures, high-precision V and flat guides and hydrodynamically mounted grinding spindles. Added to this are maximum customer orientation, 30 years of experience in machine development and production and the famous Swabian inventor gene. And it is precisely this mix that is responsible for the outstanding precision of M+M Mai machines, says Michael Mai.

Brand new machine at the GrindingHub 2024

The company is already looking forward to this year's GrindingHub, says Michael Mai, where it plans to present its latest machine to the trade public. "It is a completely new development that can be set up either as a production machine or as a universal machine, depending on requirements. The special feature of the new machine is its excellent accessibility and high flexibility - despite its extremely compact dimensions. We are convinced that this combination will inspire many and can hardly wait to present it to the trade public," concludes Michael Mai. If you want to make sure you have enough time for an in-depth technical discussion, you are welcome to book an appointment in advance at GrindingHub.

M+M Mai GmbH was founded in 1984 by Monika and Manfred Mai as a maintenance company and is now run by the second generation of the family, brothers Michael and Manuel. The family business currently employs 17 people at its site in Großbettlingen near Stuttgart and manufactures individual machines for high-precision internal and external grinding, supplying customers all over the world.
