Resource efficiency through a modular dressing system

17. March 2026

With its ECO interchangeable system for dressing discs, DR. KAISER Diamantwerkzeuge GmbH & Co. KG offers a solution for modern grinding technology that combines the latest demands for cost-efficiency and sustainability with the highest precision. The modular design allows for the easy replacement of dressing pads whilst the backing body is reused multiple times. The system thus marks the transition from traditional disposable tools to a sustainable circular economy in the management of dressing tools.

Precision through technical separation

The technological core of the ECO system lies in the separation of the durable substrate from the actual functional layer, the diamond coating. Whilst conventional methods often require the entire tool to be replaced, the modular design of the ECO system allows for the targeted replacement of worn coating rings. However, this separation has no impact whatsoever on accuracy: DR. KAISER ensures the identical tolerance and running accuracy of the initial delivery with every re-coating. This means that process stability is fully maintained, particularly when dressing ultra-hard CBN and diamond abrasives.

Efficiency throughout the process

The system proves particularly effective when used in combination with impregnated dressing rings. These are specifically designed for conditioning ceramic-bonded CBN and diamond grinding wheels and are characterised by a self-sharpening effect. In practice, this results in consistently high cutting performance of the grinding wheel throughout its entire service life. The ECO replacement system speeds up the logistics process: by stocking standardised dressing rings, delivery times are significantly reduced. Users also have the choice of having the replacement carried out as a complete service at the factory in Celle or performing the change directly on-site in their own production facility using the ECO tool set.

Sustainability as an economic advantage

The benefits for the user can be measured in both environmental and economic terms. By reusing the precision moulds multiple times, up to 80 per cent of the material can be saved compared to purchasing new ones. This reduced use of resources translates into lower tooling costs from the very first reuse. The ECO-System thus provides a solution to rising cost pressures whilst simultaneously supporting the carbon footprint of modern industrial enterprises through reduced logistics routes and minimised raw material consumption.

LIVE at GrindingHub 2026

At GrindingHub, taking place from 5–8 May 2026 in Stuttgart, visitors to the DR. KAISER stand 7A75 can experience the ECO exchange system live and, as part of a time challenge, try for themselves just how quick and easy it is to replace dressing pads.
